Why Eureka seveN AO is Terrible (No Spoilers)

This is the review I posted to My Anime List. I will potentially be creating a review with spoilers in the future.

Story

What It Should Have Been

A lot of viewers will tell you that a sequel to Eureka seveN was near impossible. However, I completely disagree with this notion. Eureka seveN AO could have gone in two very plausible directions.

I. A sequel based on the artwork from DVD Vol. 12

http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-Seven-Vol-Episodes-47-50/dp/B00114UUKY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439064718&sr=8-1&keywords=eureka+seven+dvd+12

In this picture, there are essentially two worlds: the above-ground and below-ground, as I've taken to calling them. The plethora of questions posed by this image (since the image is canon to the end of Eureka seveN) could easily make for a new series:

1. Is there political turmoil between above-grounders and below-grounders?
2. If this takes place far in the future, are Coralian-Human hybrid descendants common and do they face discrimination like the Vodarac?
3. How different are the cultures of lifters (above-grounders) and surfers (below-grounders), since below ground there is no trapar?

The Eureka seveN universe is so detailed, there should have been no problem creating a chronological sequel to it.

II. A *prequel* based on the events detailed in episode 47 of Eureka seveN.

10,000 years before Eureka seveN, humans were attacking the Scub Coral. We used jets to try bombing it, and I wouldn't doubt it if we used nukes.

In this context, the Scub Coral as the true enemy would have made perfect sense, especially when fighting these creepy things: http://eurekaseven.wikia.com/wiki/Antibody_Coralians Get rid of the Secrets and Quartz, and we would have had an amazingly good anime that built on the canon. There are more than enough questions to sustain a prequel, such as:

1. What, in graphic detail, happened to humans as they fought the Scub?
2. How did the humans build the ships that took them off the planet, and how did they survive out in space for 10,000 years?
3. How many humans were left behind to be killed/absorbed by the Scub?

Sadly, I've reached my Limit of Questions for this section, but as you can see, there was obviously a lot of missed potential with this series.

What It Actually Was

The plot was incredible sporadic. Never is there any consistency in the characters who make random choices that are not explained, or that really even matter. I can't really elaborate without *many* spoilers.

Art

Art was nothing impressive. It just took from the same Eureka seveN art style, tried to change things up in a special way, and failed.

Sound

If you look up Eureka seveN AO OST on Amazon, you get the OST for Eureka Seven, 'nuff said:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=eureka+seven+ao+ost

The music was so terrible in this anime; not in that the music was bad, but because it didn't evoke the raw emotions that music in Eureka seveN did. The only good music was the bit of Niji that they put in.

Character

Do I have to?

No really, do I have to go over this?

There was absolutely no depth to the characters whatsoever, and no character development either. When does a character actually change in the inside, as opposed to the outside? Sure, some characters get different outfits, but the same underlying characters don't change. And then you have a character that has a different outfit, and did not use to be the same character, but it is very poorly explained. You have explained but unexplained romances in the series. There are times when it pretends to be a harem... and then ignores any relationships between the characters.

Enjoyment

Did I enjoy one of my favorite animes of all time being butchered a SECOND time after it was previously butchered by a terrible movie? No.

Overall

Save yourself the 9 or so hours spent watching this series, and re-watch the original Eureka seveN. There is no reason to watch this travesty of an anime.

NyanPasu's rant. Why couldn't he read?

Today, our server was graced by the presence of NyanPasu (STEAM_0:1:52229770), a user who simply does not understand how to read. Our rules clearly state:
You will not be punished for anything that damages your karma. However, you will be punished to the fullest extent for anything that does not damage your karma.
https://www.unigamia.com/wiki/Magnets_and_Waffles#Rules

So we were on Westwood and I was innocent. I jokingly told Nyan to get in the jail cell, and he instead told me to, so I told him I would only get in if he got in with me. I went in and he locked me in. He had ~10 health. I killed him, and then the detective killed me for killing him.

So he starts accusing me of admin abuse. Tells me I need to slay myself for RDMing. Why? I lost karma for killing him. If I slayed myself, it would be double jeopardy.

... what does he do at the very start of the next round? RDMs me. I was traitor. So now he goes on a tirade about how he's getting slayed for two rounds after an RDM at the beginning of the round (which usually warrants at least a six month ban...). I was being lenient on him, and he decides to leave the server... so what are his offenses?
  • RDMing at the beginning of a round.
  • RDM and leave.
  • Revenge RDM.
  • Not reading the damn rules.
*sigh*

Why DayZ sucks

I'm going to document all of the annoying errors I get while trying to join a custom DayZ server:
Addon 'dayz_anim' requires addon 'CA_CommunityConfigurationProject_E'
From what I could tell, this was caused by not loading DayZ with the beta patch.

I received this error from opening the Expansions menu in DayZ:
 No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgMods/VILAS_RW_Forces_CO.dir'.
It seems to be from Vilas's Eastern Weapons Pack. When I enable it and restart my game, it is promptly disabled after the restart.

When I try to join the custom server I want, it gives me this error:
You cannot play/edit this mission; it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted. gnt_c185
Before installing DayZ Epoch Panthera, it was:
You cannot play/edit this mission; dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted. asc_eu_lights
When I close these popups, it errors out with:
Include file z\addons\dayz_code\system\BIS_Effects\init.sqf not found.

A forum post suggested that I should copy the contents of Arma 2 to Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. I did that and now receive:
No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgWeapons/BAF_L85A2_UGL_Holo.BAF_L17_40mm'.
These errors never end...

It's four days later and now it's time for more errors:
Picture z\addons\dayz_code\gui\mod.paa not found
But I finally got DayZ to work! I had to uninstall the Arma 2: DayZ Mod entry that I had in Steam, make sure its folder was removed in Arma 2.

Worst Gaming Organization of the Week: Koality Gaming

So I posted a completely reasonable ban request on Koality Gaming.

http://akoalitysite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=642

In synopsis, I told the admin that I believed two innocents were traitors, killed one and attempted to kill the other. The admin obviously misunderstood most of what I was saying, and even failed to read the damage logs correctly:
I believe you misread the damage logs:
I'm going to be very honest here, I really don't care about your opinions about how I should run the server. I'm not going to run the server in a way that allows rdmers to stay around for awhile while I wait for karma to do things. I also prefer having people make the decision, not a computer. You killed an innocent and then tried to rdm a detective. You're not getting unbanned.

Thread locked
I tried to kill two innocents who I thought were traitors. I did not try to RDM a detective, I was a detective.

Please reconsider your decision,
PatPeter
I would highly suggest that no one plays on either of their servers.

Worst Gaming Organization of the Week: Defused Gaming

Right now, I am on "Defused Gaming | Public TTT Server | 1 hit knife" (66.150.164.62:27015). Last map, we played ttt_airbus_b3, probably one of my top 3 Trouble in Terrorist Town maps. Two rounds before the end of the map, a player named ichimo (STEAM_0:0:45118624), who is also an admin, activated the first emergency exit exactly when the round started. I called him out for it. Peppermint Jello (STEAM_0:1:48392931), another one of the admins on staff, decided to slay me for calling out someone doing something traitorous. I missed the last round of my favorite map, because I called out a traitorous act. Admin abuse at its highest.

ichimo was a traitor, by the way.

Update: Half an hour later (8:30pm), I am still playing on this server, except it is on ttt_community_bowling_v5a now. ichimo once again admin abused, killing my traitor buddy and then threatening to prop kill me. I hastily tried to defend myself, but I find it somewhat suspicious that the admin targeting both of the traitors...

ARMA and ARMA II Review

Both ARMA and ARMA II belong to the worst game series I have ever played in my entire life. This blog post will be continuously updated to reflect my views on this series. For reference, the games I will be writing about include:
  1. ARMA: Combat Operations
    1. ARMA: Gold Edition on Steam
    2. ARMA: Cold War Assault
  2. ARMA II
    1. ARMA II: Army of the Czech Republic
  3. ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead
    1. ARMA II: British Armed Forces
    2. ARMA II: Private Military Company
  4. Arma II: DayZ Mod
I will not be writing about ARMA III because I do not own nor do I plan on buying it, however I highly suggest not buying it if it is anything like ARMA II.

So let's begin. The worst part of ARMA/II is the engine it runs off of. ARMA II "boasts the most realistic combat environment in the world. It models real world ballistics & round deflection, materials penetration, features a realtime day/night cycle and dynamic wind, weather and environmental effects."

Well, if realism means that there is no way to jump in the game, only some pathetic vaulting, then it must be realistic.

Do you enjoy knowing the target of your demise so you can plot your revenge? Well too bad, ARMA/II only tells you that you were killed, not by who or what.

Want to see technical game information? Something along the lines of a developer console? Too bad, it doesn't have one.

DayZ
My greatest mistake in buying ARMA/II was buying it solely for the purpose of playing DayZ because of all the hype. I can unequivocally state that DayZ is worse than the worst Source engine or Unreal engine mod out there.
  1. DayZ has the worst hit registration. If you enjoy hitting or shooting something at point blank range only for them to miss, you'll enjoy DayZ.
  2. DayZ has the worst animations. It's like Left 4 Dead 2 if you put your rate at 1000.
  3. No seriously, I have to make a point to expand on my last point. The zombie animations are terrible. If you attack a zombie crawling or crouching, to attack you it will stand up in a split second and then return to its former position.
  4. Not every building is hollow, most are simply models. This makes scavenging a lot less fun.
  5. And when the buildings are hollowed out, they look like crap! Take the hospitals for example. What do you think of in regards to a hospital? A large lobby? At least a clinic? No, the hospital isn't even a whole floor it's like a grandiose bus stop.
  6. If you are driving an ATV and it happens to flip on its side, your character has no way to flip it back over.
